OLD-FASHIONED DANCES
REVIVAL OF POLKA The reviva lof old-fashioned dances which is steadily finding favour in Birmingham is reflected in the large number of family groups who nightly congrgeate in the halls there to foot the military two-siep. the polka and the veleta. At the beginning of the season the halls were the monopoly of sleek-headed youths and girls who tried to make themselves believed they liked dancing the six-eight. But they didn’t, so as there was no new dance to take its place Birmingham decided to revive the old dances. This has led to many a Midland grannie and grandpa leaving the seclusion of their, firesides to show their descendants just how the old dances should be done.
