REMARKABLE STORY

IMPERSONATED BY DOUBLE A remarkable story of impersonation came before the Budapest Court recently. George Vida, a wealthy landowner, left his luxurious Budapest house to spend a couple of months at his country estate. To the surprise of his servants a man whom they took for their master arrived later the same day, saving that urgent business required his presence in town.

Subsequently the real George Vida returned unexpectedly to Budapest, and was dumbfounded to meet apparently his own self boarding his own car. The “double” confessed that having discovered his striking similarity to Vida he decided to masquerade as him. When the penniless impostor was in prison he became unexpectedly heir to a fortune, which enabled him to buy his liberty by compensating his victim.
