DUCK SHOOTING SEASON
LATE ISSUE OF LICENSES. POSITION IN AUCKLAND. Considerable dissatisfaction is being expressed by sportsmen throughout the Auckland district owing to their inability to mark out stands for the duck shooting, consequent upon the late issue of game licenses this year. The council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society explains that licenses cannot be printed until the Gazette containing the season’s regulations is issued. This year it was received in Auckland on March 28, and printing was immediately put in hand. About 4300 licenses have to be printed, and until these are al] delivered and checked it is impossible for supplies to he sent to post offices and agents. There are 106 post offices and 44 agents selling licenses in the dis-
trict, and the council endeavours as far as possible to have licenses available for sale at each place at the same day and hour.
Th despatch of licenses is complicated owing to the fact that all licenses for post offices have to be sent to the chief postmasters at Auckland, Hamilton and Thames for distribution among offices under their control, and it is a very difficult matter to ensure that every officn receives supplies for issue simultaneously. The council is using its best endeavours to accomplish this object, and expects to have licenses available at every centre at J a.m. on Monday.
The annual meeting of the society will be held in Auckland on April 15, and it is hoped that all shooting men will attend and offer some practical suggestion in regard to an alteration in the method or time of marking duck shotting stands.
