For the cricket test trial match on Sydney cricket ground to-day between Ryder’s and Woodfull’s teams the weather was perfect and 7000 were present. Ryder won the toss, the opening partnership between Ponsford ana Jackson of 278 runs, was the feature of the day’s play. Both batsmen passed the century. Ponsford displayed restraint through, out for his 131. Both virtually threw away their wickets, being caught in the outfield while attempting big hits. The match so far has revealed no bowler of outstanding ability. Six were tried including Wall, Hornibrook, Fairfax, Blackie, Bradman and Burrows, the latter a Tasmanian all of whom were flogged ■unmercifally. The fielding was of the highest, class.
