DAINTY SILK HANDKERCHIEFS.
HOW TO CABE FOB THEM. To “got up” silk handkerchiefs like new, add a cupful of potato-water to each quart of ordinary water used in washing. Not only will the handkerchiefs keep a better colour, but tho silk will not be damaged. Tho trouble with some of the pretty “Jazz” handkerchiefs is that the colours often “run” tho first time of washing. This can be avoided to a large extent by washing them with warm water and plain soap; then, before the colours can run, place them in a basin of cold water to which half a tcaspoonful of vinegar and the same quality of salt have been added. If the handkerchiefs have already been washed and the colours have started to run further deterioration can often be checked bv plunging them into cold water Witfi the salt and vinegar and one drop of ammonia. ‘A good deal of the original crisp freshness will be restored to silk handkerchiefs if they are put through very thin starch water. Coloured ones should bo ironed when nearly dry, and then only a warm iron should be used.
