TAWHERO SCHOOL

BREAK-UP CONCERT Tawhero School teachers and pupils staged their break-up concert at Gonville Town Hall on Thursday evening, when the building was packed and a very satisfactory sum raised. The concert was of a particularly enjoyable nature, and disclosed a wealth of talent in the school, from the tiny tots to the pupils of the senior classes. Great credit is not only due to Mr Williams, headmaster, and Misses Bell and Craig, but also to the pupils for tho way they acquitted themselves on the stage. There were quite a variety of items, songs, recitations, mouth organ selections and*a playette. Tho mouth organ band was under the direction of the headmaster. The playing was distinctly creditable, and the audience were well pleased with the result. The parts in the playette were very nicely taken and the dressing was also a special feature. Unfortunately, however, the stage accommodation was somewhat cramped for the piece. It is the aim of the teachers and parents to endeavour in the near future to raise sufficient money to erect a hall at Tawhero, which will be available for functions in that locality. During an interval in the proceedings the members of the committee went upon the stage and made a presentation of a satchel to Mr Williams from the committee. Mr Clarke, chairman, made eulogistic reference to Mr Williams and said that he was always willing to help in every way. Ho had done excellent world in co-operating with tho committee and organising entertainments to improve the school surroundings. They looked upon him as a most progressive teacher. His whole heart was in his work, added Mr Clarke. Mr Williams briefly replied and said that hc had a good committee wljo were always willing to help, and also good parents. He had made many demands upon them for necessary work at tho school, and not only the parents, but others in the locality had responded willingly. For instance, in the recent Queen Carnival they had raised £4O. He hoped it would not be long before they had a hall at Tawhero as it entailed a lot of hard work bringing tho entertainment over to Gonville.
