SEAFIELD LADIES’ CLUB MEMBERS’ ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The anuaul meeting of members of the Seafield Ladies’ Golf Club was held in Messrs U. L. Duigan and Co.’s rooms, Ridgway Street, last Tuesday, Mrs Mewburn, president, presiding over a good attendance. The eteff-tion of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs Mewburn; vice-presi-dents, Mrs Wills and Miss Cal ver; captain, Mrs Goldsbury; vice-captain, Mrs Sharpe; committeee, Mesdames Hassall, Goss, McArtney, McDonald, and Thompson; Miss Clarke; hon. treasurer, Miss A. Wood; hon. secretary, Miss C. McDonald. It was reported that sinc e the pre- I vious year the membership had been considerably increased and several improvements both on th e links and in the clubhouse had been made. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair and the outgoing committee.

J. Davis and W. Vincent to look after the boys. Members should not forget that either of these coaches will be only too pleased to give them any advice they may need on athletics and training methods. It is nearly time the members of tho Ladies’ Club put in an appearance and got into serious training as there is not much time before January 11 when they want to be at the top of their form to compete against the Wellington ladies. Miss Thelma Keuch has joined up ’with the Hutt Valley Club but is still a member of the Wanganui Club. She hopes to be able to compete for Wanganui against Wellington next month. The annual visit to Wellington to compete against the Wellington Club for the first leg of the Jubilee Banner has been arranged for January 11. This is admittedly early in the season but it- is the only date available. All members are invited to compete at the meetings as all events are handicaps. Last year the Club took down a team of about 40. It is to be hoped that the club will be able to exceed that number this season. General Matters This writer would like to know when the Wanganui-Taranaki Centre intend holding a meeting. Time is getting on and yet there does not seem to be a move, and this with a big season ahead. The Wanganui-Taranaki Championships are to be held at Hawera this season. If some of the members of the City Council, especially the Reserves Committee, were to put 'in an appearance at Cook’s Gardens on a Thursday evening they would be able to see for them, selves the lack of accommmodation there for athletes in training. It is a pity that the use of the big room under the grandstand is not granted, for that would be better than nowhere at all. W. Bradley, an ex-member of the Wanganui Club, has been elected captain of the Hutt Valley Athletic Club. “Scanty Silk Costumes” Fashions and those who wear the different styles will always provide food for criticism. Women bear the brunt of the attacks made in this direction, but this little paragraph does not concern the ladies, but the men athletes of Christchurch, some of whose costumes on the track provided an interesting discussion at a recent meeting of tho Canterbury Centre. Onepiece suits and what were called flimsy, silk costumes were those to which officials directed principal attention. It was mentioned that the starter had voiced exception to the uniforms worn by some of the competitors, and particularly to one-piece uniforms, which were an imitation, of professionals’ costumes. Some of the uniforms worn were too scanty, singlets in some in„ stances being cut very low at the shoulders. The president (Mr R. Beattie) remarked that competitors should not wear thin silk uniforms, and he said he would take particular notice of the costumes worn at future meetings. Canadian Team's Tour So far as the Canadian tour is concerned there is nothing new to report, and the position, to say the least about it, is most unsatisfactory. Several . cables, it is stated, have been sent to Mr M. M. Robinson, the N.Z.A.A.A.’s Canadian representative, but the council of the N.Z.A.A.A. is no further ahead with the tour that has been mapped out. Jimmy Ball has been accepted as one of the party and Percy Williams as the other, and it is over the latter, it seems, that arrangements are being held up. The last cable message from Mr' Robinson intimated that leave of absence to make the trip was being applied for on behalf of Williams; but since then the New Zealand Council has not been advised one way or the other. It is difficult to understand why nothing further has come to hand. The council is waiting in hopes of hearing something definite from Canada, but the days ■ are speeding by and the time is rapidly- approaching when the Canadians, if th'ey are coming, are due to. leave San Francisco for Wellington,

Coming or Not? On the question of the Canadians coming there is still a certain amount of confidence, but in some quarters there are those who are shaking their heads and wondering, and they can be excused for doing* so. Looking on the gloomy side, it will be most unfortunate if the tour does not eventuate. The hopes of centres, clubs, and athletes throughout the Dominion were buoyed up by the earlier announcements, and because of this and to some measure the fact that disappointment was caused over the unsuccessful endeavours to get an overseas team to the Dominion last season, it will come as a big blow if negotiations fall through. Still, the council is waiting, and there are yet prospects ®f the tour being undertaken as planned, and everyone being satisfied. The waiting, however, is a little distracting; a cable gram from Mr Robinson would be very much appreciated, and it m to be hoped that the terms of it will be that Williams and Ball are coming.
