RACES AT HAWERA

EGMONT CLUB’S FIXTURE SUMMER MEETING PROSPECTS (By “Kestrel.”) For some vears the Egmont Racing Club have ‘found that their summer meeting has been less and less patronised by owners and trainers on account of the fact that it followed on after a strenuous period of racing, by which time many horses had earned a respite from serious work. Thus it was that the committee decided to shift their fixture to the week preceding the Christmas and New Year campaign. From all appearances it was a wise move, for nominations were freely accorded the fixture and the fields engaged are splendid. Now it only requires the generous support of the racing public and a hearty response fror. owners and trainers on acceptance night to convince the croakers that the committee’s move was a well-advised one. There are no half-measures about the Egmont Club. Special trains at excursion fares have been arranged for, and thus patrons from a distance w r ill find they are well catered for. Again, this is one of the first clubs to lower the price of admission to the course for ladies to the nominal sum of one shilling, while for men the price is two shillings, w’hereas the mos. conservative clubs charge half-a-crown. The extra cost for admission to the lawn and grandstand is also the lowest in any of the large centres. All things considered, the Club may look forward to having a most successful fixture, and the Egmont Cup and Nolan Gold Cup on the opening day should be events well worth even a long journey.
