DOUBLE TRACK TUNNEL LONGEST IN THE WORLD Received Dec. '5, 9 p.m. ROME, Dec. 4. The boring of the longest doubletrack tunnel in the world was completed to.day. It penetrates the Apennines between Bologna and Florence and cost £5,000,000, largely owing to the extraordinary hardness of the rock.
Sixty-nine lives were lost in the process of the work, which reduces the journey from two and a-half hours to an hour. The total cost of the work was £9,000,000.
