always manages to keep in the news by doing something freakish. Its City Council seems to be ever ready to provide a stunt of one sort or another. Its latest effort in this direction is to decide to prohibit dancing after 11.30 on Saturday night. The reason given for this remarkable decision is that dancers make a noice when they leave off dancing. Undoubtedly thoughtless revellers are a pest at best and a thoroughgoing nuisance at worst. But surely the problem of a few thoughtless people could be handled in a more desirable way than has been done by the Christchurch City Council. Prohibitions are always distasteful and should never be imposed unless there is no alternative remedial action available.
