MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION HAY BEATS MCDONALD. [ Per Press Association ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. Artie Hay (Hastings) won the middleweight boxing championship of New Zealand to-night, when he defeated Lachie McDonald (Timaru) in tho twelfth round. The referee stopped tho fight after McDonald had been down twice for the count of seven. The first five or six rounds were fought at a very fast pace. This told on McDonald, who was down for eight in the tenth round and for seven in the eleventh. There was a large crowd at tho Town Hall. Hay weightd 10.13, and McDonald 11.4. The winner also holds the welterweight title.
