THEFT OF FURS

ROBBERY AT AUCKLAND. TWO MEN ARRESTED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. A sensational robbery was committed by two men at the premises of the Arctic Fur Company, Upper Queen St., to-night, furs valued at about £lOO being stolen. The men gained entry by smashing a glass door. A young girl who was standing on the footpath nearby ran into a houes and told her mother, who rang for the police. Returning to the road the girl saw the men emerge from the shop and run down the street, carrying two heavy packages. Four detectives and one constable arrived and a thorough search of the neighbourhood was started at once. The scarcn had extended to Wavcrley Street, which runs behind the shop, when two men were seen tG leave a house. They were stopped and questioned, They were preparing to enter a taxi and in their possession the detectives found a sugar sack stuffed full of furs and a large valise which had been left in the shop by the manager. As a result, the men were arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. The furs, which were piled high on a table, were identified by the manager of the company.
