Hon. W. A. Veitch’s Support
J AM pleased to avail myself of the privilege accorded to me to say a word or two on Empire Trade. The natural resources of the countries within tho British Commonwealth are not exceeded in wealth by any other nation. On their development depends the progress and prosperity of the inhabitants of all of the countries which the British Commonwealth embraces. While great strides have been made during recent years in stimulating and increasing interImperial trade, there are vast possibilities for still further advancement. I am convinced that one of the principle requirements for a greater volume of Empire trade is a better and wider knowledge of each constituent part of our wonderful Empire and its peoples. The opportunity is here to help to make our Empire greater than it has ever been, and this can be achieved by an extension of trade between the Mother Country and her self-governing Dominions and Colonics. To-day Great Britain is our best customer for New Zealand products, and in return we have shown ourselves to be a good customer for her manufactures. I feel sure that increased trade within the Empire will make for better progress and greater prosperity and prove invaluable in maintaining tho peace of the world. I find it impossible to express in words my feelings about our wonderful and glorious Empire which stands for justice and freedom for democracy and tolerance. We can make it still greater by co-operation and purchasing within the Empire an everincreasing proportion of our requirements. (Signed) W. A. VEITCH, Minister of Labour.
