NAVAL DISARMAMENTS A FIVE-POWER CONFERENCE PROBLEM OF FRENCH CLAIMS [ Australian Press Assn. ] Received Oct. 1, 10 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 30. A wireless message from the Berengaria on which Mr Ramsay MacDonald is a passenger for America says that final communications have been received from the Dominions regarding the questions upon which will depend the invitations to the five-power naval conference. The way is now clear for invitations to delegates to attend a conference at London in mid-January. The Daily Express’ special correspondent aboard the Berengaria under stands f at one of the difficulties that Mr MacDonald and Mr Hoover have to meet is the new French claim that for the purposes of naval tonnages her colonies rank equal with the British Dominions. Furthermore, France wants the same Mediterranean strength as Italy, which is concentrating on fast cruisers. DINNERS AND LUNCHES ENTERTAINMENT FOR VISITORS [ Australian Press Assn. ] Received October 1, 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 1. Mr H R. Stimson (United States Secretary of State), Sir Esme Howard and other notables, will meet Mr Ramsay MacDonald and party here on Friday morning, escorting the visitors to the City Hall, where Mr MacDonald will received a key of the city. Later they will depart for Washington by special train. An elaborate programme of lunches and dinners has been arranged for Mr MacDonald in New York from the 11th to the 13th of October. He leaves for Canada on the 14th.
