HEAVY SOUTHERLY
MIRAMAR FLOODED. TRAM SERVICE SUSPENDED. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. The heavy southerly continued throughout last night, with high winds and heavy rain. Two inches of rain fell in 24 hours to 9 a.m. in Wellington City and about 34 inches in the Hutt. The Hutt River is up but districts usually badly affected by water are less seriously affected on the present occasion. There are numerous small slips about, but nothing serious has so far been recorded Owing to an inadequate storm water drain Miramar is a suburb that is badly flooded and the tram service has been suspended.
