MANCHURIAN CLASH
MANY CASUALTIES FEARED SEVERE FIGHTING REPORTED. (Sun Cable.) Received August 23, 1 a.m. HONG KONG, Aug. 22. A British naval wireless states that reports have been received of severe fighting between Chinese and Russians, although thje point of conflict is not mentioned. Presumably the report refers to engagements on the Manchurian border yesterday morning. It is estimated that 300 Chinese were killed and that there were many casualties. The Russians also had heavy losses.
