WHENUAROA SHIELD MATCH
WAINUI-A-RUA BETAIN TROPHY. DEFEAT OF CHALLENGERS. On a heavy ground yestfltday at Banana the Wainui-a-rua representatives met and defeated the team of Wanganui Maori challengers for the Whenuaroa Shield, the respective scores being 21 points to 6. The home team, telephoned the special up-river correspondent of the “Chronicle,” were favoured by the going, being accustomed to the heavy going, but they were in addition definitely superior to the visitors, though perhaps not to the extent that the margin appeared to indicate. The Wainui-a-rua team’s score was made up of seven unconverted tries, and for the challengers Carter kicked two penalty goals.
