TO RIDE IN GERMANY

CRACK AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY. It is now practically certain J, Munro will go to Germany next year, says a Sydney writer. It will be a great experience for me to ride in Germany, and may lead to something even better. “During the past year I was lucky in getting mounts on winners of so many big races, but as I can scarcely expect to do so well this season a retainer of between £2,000 and £3OOO is attractive. It gives you something worth having, 'even if you do not ride winners. “Wins at Randwick mean something [substantial, but at some of the smaller [meetings, with many races run in two divisions, and a few in three, owners ! cannot always afford to be liberal, j “Nor can a rider expect it, with a small prize and a cramped price.’’ Wants Little Wasting.

| Munro can ride with comfort at 8.4 ! and with hard wasting can get down to 8.0.

“I did it to ride Statesman,’’ he remarked, “but though the result justified it. I felt the effects for some time after.”

He is hopeful that in Germany most of his riding will be at a sufficiently high scale of weights to make wasting unnecessary.

I Last year he made an early engageIment to ride Statesman in the Melbourne Cup, but this time he has not made any definite arrangements for the spring, though he may again be on Amounts in the Epsom.
