CONDEMNED TO DEATH
SENTENCE ON TWO PRIESTS CHARGES LAID BY THE SOVIET (Times Cable) Received Aug. 6, 9 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 6. The Riga correspondent of the Times reports that a Soviet tribunal at Samara condemned to death two orthodox priests and four members of a congregation on a charge of “healing the sick and casting out devils-” They were also charged with urging the faithful not to observe the Soviet laws. Following upon the decision to compel workmen and officials to subscribe six months’ wages to the new industrialisation loan, the Soviet has instructed factories to deduct the first instalment from August wages and two further instalments in September. The instructions have been issued in ocnsequence of the State Planning Commission’s unfavourable report on the financial situation.
