MONTHLY MEETING HELD ROUTINE BUSINESS DEALT WITH The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board was held day. Air J. T. Hogan, M.P., presiding. The following members were also present, Messrs W .8. Glenn, P. Higginbottom, W. J. Rogers, R. Farley, J. Morrison, D. Boss and T. L. Lovegrove. The Minister of Marine (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) wrote acknowledging receipt of the recent by-law passed by the Board in connection with whariage ©n wheat.—Received. A copy of the local Bill to be placed before Parliament in connection with the proposed loan of £200,000 was received from the Board’s solicitors (Messrs Marshall, Izard and Barton) who pointed out the need for haste if the Bill is to be dealt with at the present session. The Hon. W. A. Veitch, member for Wanganui wrote stating that he would take charge of the Bill. A discussion followed on the subject of widening the boundaries of the Board’s district (reported elsewhere) a resolution being carried that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman. Replies were received from various shipping interests acknowledging receipt of the report of Mr F. W. Fur kert and Captain Whiteford on the entrance groyne. The Minister of Defence forwarded a copy of the Aviation Bill, wherein it is proposed to grant statutory pow er to local bodies to contribute to funds raised for the purpose of estab lishing air ports. —Received. Raised rails on the town wharves were made the subject of a complaint by the Waterside Workers’ Dispute Committee. It was decided that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman of the works committee and engineer and if the necessary repairs warrant a small expenditure, they have power to act. The Fern Leaf Bacon Compiliy wrote with reference to the term of a lease granted them by the Board. The matter was referred to the cool stores committee.
