PATEA GENERAL NEWS A very successful shop day in aid of the Whenuakura Hall funds was held in Patea last Saturday, Airs P. A. Bourke, Airs AV. E. Donald and Aliss H. Shield being in charge. As a result of their efforts between £9 and £lO was raised. Poppy Day Poppy Day was observed in Patea on Saturday Airs J. Petersen generously undertaking the sale of poppies. Working single-handed, Airs Petersen sold all the poppies that had been possible to obtain. The proceeds of Saturday’s sale will go towards the maintenance of the memorial gates of the Domain. The sum obtained by Airs Petersen was nearly £ll Personal Aliss Phyllis Bourke, Whenuakura. leaves to-morrow fur a holiday visit to Sydney, where she intends to stay for about four weeks. Airs W. F. Shield and her two daughters, Aliss Jean and Aliss Vera Shield, left yesterday for Wellington to attend the wedding of Aliss Al. Haldane, formerly of Patea. Airs F. AV. Hamel has returned to Patea after a long holiday in Auckland. Rifle Shooting The final competitions for President P. Palmer's Cup was fired on the local range un Saturday last. A strong left wind made shooting difficult. The best scores off the rille were D. Roots 4b at 500yds and C. Carey 45 at 600yds. Rifleman A. Baldwin* who has shot consistently throughout the competition, proved the winner of the cup with C. Carey runner-up. The following are the scores:— A.
