NATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (British Offi'ial Wireless.) RUGBY. April 16. Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Winston Chur<-hill stated that the report of th e sub-committee of the (.'uni in it tee of Civil Research of Radium, would be issued immediatelyThe report dealt with the national requirements for radium in medical treatment, and for the purpose of physical research, and with the possibility of developing new sources of supply. The sub-coinmittec had expressed the opinion that in order to meet the requirements of England, Wales and Scotland, 2(1 grammes of radium, in addition to the stocks already available or likely to b p available shortly for general medical use, should be acquired within a specified period before the end of 1930. The sub-committe e recommended that the necessary sum to provide this was estimated at £200,000, and should be raised by public appeal, to which the Government should contribute £1 for £l. The Government had accepted the financial recommendations of flic sub-committee, and would be prepared to contribute from the public funds up to a maximum of £lOO,OOO, £1 for every £1 subscribed.
