LOANS IN AMERICA VAST BORROWING REPORTED JIIE CREDITOR NATION [Australian Press Asan.] Received April 17. 11 p.m. WASHINGTON, April 16. The Department of Commerce has announced that the flotation of foreign i securities in the I nited States in 1928 i aggregated 1.487,000,000 dollars, being! the greatest in any year with the ex-i ception of 1927, when 1,502,000,000 del- i jars were floated. The great bulk of the 1928 financing, > however, was done during the first six | months of the year, flotations for that period being two and a-half times those of the second half of the year. This slump was due to the disturbed credit situation. Germany with 292.000.000 dollars an<l Canada with 237.000.000 dollars, were the largest borrowers in 1928. American foreign investments between 1924 and J92S totalled 130,000,- ; 000,000 dollars.
