Air A. G. Bignell, who has been on a visit to tho South Island, returned to Wanganui during the week-end. Air A. Crawford was welcomed by (he Wanganui Education Board yesterday on taking his place for the first time as Senior Inspector of Schools for the Wanganui district. Alessrs AV. A. Collins (Wanganui) and AL 11. Oram (Palmerston North) were appointed at yesterday 's meeting to represent the Wanganui Education Board at a conference of boards to bo held in Wellington at the end of Alay. The Hon. 11. Atmore, Minister of Education, and Air S. G. Smith. ALP. for New Plymouth, arrived in Wanganui last night and proceed to AVaitara thi s morning. Air Atmore’s private secretary, Air AV. I. Deavail, is also with the party, who stayed at the Rutland Hotel. Air A. O. AlacGillycuddy, Australian representative for Alessrs Robert AlcNish and Co., Ltd., London, is on a business visit to Wanganui after a six weeks tour through the Dominion. He leaves to-day for New Plymouth and Auckland, before proceeding to Australia. He is accompanied on the Now Zealand tour by Air C. A. Quane, of the Christchurch flrm of 11. Quane and Co. Mr G. A. Lee, th e consulting engineer recently appointed by the Wanganui Harbour Board, arrived in Wanganui yesterday in order to commence his preliminary inspection with a view to making a report to the Board on proposed improvements. Air Lee, who is a member of the Auckland flrm of Blair, Alason and Lee, will probably remain in Wanganui for a few days, and will meet members of the Board to-morrow afternoon. Tho long and faithful service rendered to the cause of education, and in particular to the Wanganui Board, by four of its teachers—Airs Al. Stewart (Lytton Street), Airs C. B. AVeekos (Palmerston North Central), Alessrs AV. 11. AlcLean (Feilding), and C. H. AlcLean (Queen’s Park) —who are resigning. was referred to by tho Board chairman (Mr AV. A. Collins) yesterday. The Board decided to place on record its appreciation of their services and to extend them best wishes for the future.
