BISHOP’S ADVENTURE
HELPS NATIVE WOMAN [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, April 16. Bishop Molyneux, who arrived from Sydney by the Uhmaroa, is associated with a story of adventure in one of the New Hebrides. Several months ago he was informed that a French recruiting vessel was taking away, against her will, a native married woman, and he asked the captain to release the woman. The captain dared him to set foot on the vessel, but the Bishop did so, brushing aside the gun stated to have been levelled at his head. He had his arm injured by a club, and in the confusion the woman jumped into the Bishop 's boat and was carried home in triumph.
