SHOOTING
DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB SOME BRILLIANT SHOOTING On Saturday the Wanganui Defence Rille Club fired their final shoot for the Carr Cup and the B. Holmes trophy. The Carr Cup was won by a young marksman of considerable talent, Rifleman J. Hooker, who also won the Salt Cup. Of outstanding merit was the performance of Rifleman B. Holmes, who scored a possible (35) at the 800 yards and 33 at 900. He scored twelve consecutive bulls and finished up with two inners very close to the centre, making a total of 68 out of the possible of 79. It was brilliant shooting, and that he is a consistently good marksman is shown by the fact that earlier in the season Holmes notched a 67 at the same ranges. Rifleman W, Hudson, Rifleman F. C. Hogg and several others secured very fine scores on Saturday. Rifleman Shaw, who has shot very well this season, filled second place for both trophies. Details of the scores are as follows:
