PATEA MAGISTRATE’S COURT At the Paten S.M. Court on Friday before Air. .1. H. Salmon, S.M. judgment by default was given in the case of Gibson’s Ltd., v. E. Treweek, a claim for £2O 12s Id, (costs £l. 14s). In a judgment summons case, J. and A. Guy v. A. Burrows, a claim for £.5 7s lOd, defendant was ordered to pay the amount forthwith in default 'five <lavs’ imprisonment in Wanganui 'G;iol. Main Highways Board. The members of the Main Highways Board, together with Messrs A. Tindall. engineer, and W. A. Sutherland, secretary to tin’ Board, and with Mr J*. Keler, district engineer, Stratford, passed through Paten on Saturday Just. The board was met at Waitotara by the chairman of the County Council and Mr G. AV King, county engineer. Or; arrival at Batea Councillor C. R. Honeyfiold, deputy mayor, Councillors Christensen and Pettigrew, and Air Frank T. Ray, Town Clerk, met the board in the County Council chambers. Mr C. R. AV, King, when an inspection was made of the Waitotara Hill and a request made that the board favourably consider lhe question of improving it. After visiting Paten the board, with the county chairman and engineer. visited the Kakaramea A\ aterholo, and the Alanawapou Hill, the roadway near both of which needed improving. After the matter had been discussed 1 the chairman of the Highways Board promised, to give the matters the fullest consideration. Personal. Aliss R. Isle, of London, who is Louring the world, left Batea yesterday, where she has been the guest of Airs T. E. Roberts Air and Airs C. D. Christensen are at present on a visit to Patea, where they are staying with Air and Alr s A. T. Christensen. At the Carnival Dance on Monday night Airs AV. T. Simmons was hostess of a party in honour of Miss Symes, lhe orchestra mad 0 dancing enjoyable to everyone, and was carried on into early morning hours. A second mishap happened yesterday, when a car driven by a hatsive, backed into the private entrance of the Central Hotel, luckily doing no more damage than shattering the glass in the hotel doors.
