In order to save the Foundling Hospitals site of nine acres off Gray’s Inn Road from builders, Lord Rothermerc has purchased it for £525,000, paying £50,000 down in order to secure an option until June, 1931. Lord Rothermerc also offers £50,000 towards the purchase, making £lOO,OOO if the entire site is converted into a children’s park, and used one month in each year as a camping ground for British Boy Scout's.
