WANGANUI CLUB

ACCEPTORS FOR FIRST DAY “Splendid” is how a well-known light-harness enthusiast described the aceptances received last night for the first day of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting, which will be held next Thursday ami Saturday And few there are who will disagree. The club has had a Jean time of it for several seasons, but indications that the corner of the Jong lane has been turned at last are not wanting, and all will hope that there is an era of prosperity ahead. In the hands of the present committee and with secretary Clem Swan doing good work in directing the clerical side, of the business, the; affairs of the Chib should soon take on a more pleasing aspect. Reverting to the acceptances received .for next Thursday, it is pleasing to note that they total over 100, giving an average of twelve a race, and there is every prospect of some interesting racing being provided. The Cup field numbers fifteen, the principal defections being Arachne, Ngahuia, Queen Elizabeth, Lottie Advance, Van Cap and Bingen King. There is plenty of material left for a splendid race and the contest for the handsome silver cup donated by Mr J. R. Corrigan should be worthy of the occasion. The opening event, the Innovation handicap, has drawn an acceptance of sixteen, while the Morion AFemorial Handicap, the last event on the card, finds nineteen engaged. With good fields engaged in all the other events with the exception of the Foster Handicap. which has eight engaged, there should be some fine racing and keen finishes. Following is the list of acceptances for the opening day:—
