THE SKIPPER MISSING FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED [ Australian Press Assn. ] NEW YORK, April 4. A coastguard seaplane discovered the luxurious yacht Nomad wallowing in the sea 18 miles off the New Jersey coast and radioed to a cutter, which proceeded to the scene. An armed crew boarded the Nomad and found four sailors allegedly stupefied with liquor, lying in a cabin about which were scattered 40 liquor bottles. The skipper (Captain John L. Schofield), the famous Cape May sailing master, was missing .and it z. suspected that the crew mutinied and tossed the captain overboa rd.

The sailors are lodged t the Cape May (New Jersey) coastguard brig while agents will inspect the yacht’s log in an endeavour to discover the whereabouts of the missing captain. Coastguard officials reported towing the Nomad to Philadelphia and that one sailor had revived sufficiently to explain that the captain had been washed overboard several nights ago while the vessel was en route from Cape Charles (Virginia) to New York. Officials are holding the men for further questioning and have refused to discuss the matter.
