Marton Park, with an area of 9! acres, is the citizens’ recreation ground, and is undoubtedly an ‘deal spot for field games. Centrally situated, well laid out in hedges and gardens, with a fine playing area, it is indeed comparable with any other town’s air spaces. Has two monuments erected in memory of fallen soldiers, one for Trooper George Hyde, killed in tho Boer War; tho later erection to commemorate the memory of those who gave service in the Great War. This park was purchased by the borough, the moving spirit in securing such being the late Mr J. J. McDonald, many times Mayor of Marton.
