Twenty-six carloads of lumber and building materials wore hauled from Los Angeles Harbour to Catalina Island in the Pacific Ocean for the construction of the City of Tripoli and the town of Salem. An entire shipload of cannon balls was used in the filming of the tremendous sea battle in “Old Ironsides.” One hundred and sixty cannon were moulded in the blacksmith shop of the Paramount studio and mounted on their carriage for the battle scenes. This represented the largest order lor cannon placed since the war The cannon were modeled from the originals on board the Frigate “Constitution,” now resting in the Boston Naxjv Tard.
