HEAVY GALE SWEEPS SOUTHERN ENGLAND

MUCH DAMAGE DONE (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 28. A great gale, swept over Southern England last night ami heavy seas ran in the Channel. The Dungeness lifeboat re cued the crew of the motor schooner Hanna, bound from Antwerp to I’oolc. The lifeboat, on returning, was safely beached, after some hours of fruitless efforts to reach her station. Considerable damage was done by the storm at seaside resorts. The winds were accompanied by heavy rains in some parts of the country. •Severe floods are reported in the Rhondda Va ley of Wales and a slip occurred near Port Talbot. A railway cnl nkment gave way in Monmouthshire and blocked the line, but an accident was averted by a warning given by two schoolboys.
