Four Ita ians were wounded and J 8 others had remarkable escapes on •Saturday night, when a bomb was •iEroppeti amongst them whilst playing caru.s at a house in West Melbourne. Two men were seen peeping through the windows before the explosion. They escaped in a motor car. Homo of the Italians were, volunteers on the wharves. The bomb did considerable damage to the room. My Government is not disposed to tolerate failure to adequately protect Italian residents, and if action is not taken immediately they will be forced to take measures to protect, t heniselves. ’ ’ The police commissioner said the police, were straining every nerve to stop the outrages, and Cabinet to-mor-row will consider raising the reward from £5OO to £lOOO for information leading to the conviction of the bomb throwers. RIOTOUS SCENES AT DOCKS ITALIANS AGAIN ATTACKED - [ Auctralian Press Aasn. J Received Oct. 30, 1 a.m. .MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. Groups of volunteer wharf labourers were ambushed today at Victoria docks and other points, and there were riotous scenes at the. docks for 20 minutes. Stones, lists and boots were used by the attackers. One Italian was kicked unmercifully on the ground, l.ut his assailant was captured by a plain clothes constable. Five volunteers were treated in hospital. All were Italians. One bad sustained serious head injuries.

The police charged with batons and scattered the attackers, and then rushed away to similar scenes elsewhere. Eventually they restored peace and order. A clash between Britons and .foreigners occurred at Daradgee. a sugar growing centre near Lnnisiail. Two men, Schultz, and Thynes were s’ashed with razors and an Italian named Colom bi was arrested. The incident threatened to become a race riot but the arrival of police averted this. Another disturbance at Innisfail resulted in a man named Buckingham being slashed. It is alleged that he, with others, tried to molest an Italian named Casauo, who is a volunteer watcrsidcr. The latter, in self-defence against Buckingham, who was punching him, allegedly drew a razor. He afterwards gave himself np to the police.
