BULLS

GENERAL NEWS The Rangitikci Golf Club will close the season to-day, and trophies won will be presented to successful golfists. The Bulls Tennis Club will open the 1928-29 season on Wednesday afternoon. Additional courts will be in use this season to cope with the ever-increasing membership . Although the bowling season docs not open in Bulls until the 17th inst., several enthusiasts have already had “a roll up,” and the green is said to have played well. Members are looking forward to opening day, which will see a a revival of the enthusiasm shown towards the latter end of last season. The ladies of the Croquet Club are looking forward to another successful season, the lawns looking at their best, and when additional ground is taken in, the greens will compare favourably with those of other clubs in the district. Interchange of visits with nearby clubs, Marton, Feilding, Oroua and several in Palmerston North, are anticipated, and the improvement shown by players last year suggests that they will hold their own with outsiders in the coming season. Although the Rangitikei river is still discoloured, small catches of whitebait have been reported, but so far no trout have been in evidence. {Shortly, the call of the river and the sea will be gladly responded to by shoals of town and country people, and it goes without saying that fishing and bathing will be more popular than ever. The projected bridge across the Rangitikei at Bulls is now being seriously considered by the Highway Board and county councils, and it is reported that survey pegs have already been driven in properties through w r hich new roads are likely to be formed. The presence of a large body of workmen in close proximity to the township should give Bulls a much needed impetus of trade. THE PICTURES Miss Marlowe plays ingenue lead opposite Stephen Carr in “The Life of Riley,” in which they support George Sidney and Charlie Murray. E. M. Asher produced the big feature comedy, and William Beaudine directed it. Myrtle Stedman is the prize for which the two famous comedians and the official villain, Sam Hardy, strive, and another interesting role is enacted by Edward Davis. The picture has a riot of background colour which includes parades, circus, carnivals, fires and other “big events” in its small town locale, and will be screened at Bulls to-night.
