BATTERY TROUBLES SOLVED.

“TUNGSTONE”—A BRITISH TRIUMPH. Motorists and wireless enthusiasts will be interested in an announcement on another page of this issue of a new and entirely British accumulator which has proved by the severest of tests to place this Empire product on the highest pinaelc of battery construction and attainment. The ordinary owner-driver is very helpless in the face of mishaps to his battery, which is usually sealed up in a formidable manner. His experience is that any dc-fcet in this box of mystery necessitates the removal of the entire battery from the car, and that much time, and possibly money, passes before he again gets the use of it. The Tungstone, so far from being a magic casket, positively encourages its owner to open it up and sec how things are going. For instance, the lid of each cell, instead of being sealed down, is fastened by Vislok nuts. Once the lid is removed, each plate can be individually examined, and, if necessary, replaced, ■without otherwise dismantling the battery at all. Despite the ease with which the cells can be opened, it is claimed that full provision is made, by thc construction of the container and lid, against any creeping by the acid. Quite unusual ingenuity and enterprise have been vested in the construction of the various component parts with a view to the avoidance, as far as possible, of the common troubles to which all accumulators are liable, such as sulphation, dropping paste, buckling plates, and overheating, and it is further claimed that the car-owner need never worry about switching off for fear of damage by overcharging. Thc battery is built up in two-volt cells, and each cell consists of a patented die-cast box provided with an inside ledge at the top for the lid to be pulled down against by nuts. The plates are hung from the lid, and if one of them should need replacing, you can do it yourself in five minutes. Another special feature is the elimination of separators, small ebonite spacers being used instead. The metal box quickly dissipates heat, thus avoiding a common source of trouble, and reducing the possibility of buckled plates. The local agents are Messrs Arcade Motors Ltd., Victoria Avenue, who will be pleased to demonstrate the accumulators to motorists and wireless owners.
