THE RANFURLY SHIELD W A.IRARAPA EASILY DEFEAT HOROWHENUA [ Per Press Association ] CARTERTON, Sept. 15. The game between Wairarapa and Horowhenua for the Itanfurly Shield promised well for a start but, Wairarapa were much too strong. Dominating the play for three-quarter’s of the game, Wairarapa in the last quarter ceased to bother and Horowhenua scored two tries and a potted goal. In the first half Wairarapa made the pace hot. Within a minute Cundy, from an infringement had a shot at goal but missed. A loose scrum from a line-out saw J. Donald pick up and score in a handy position. Cundy failed to goal. Immediately afterwards a forward rush Wasley miskicked the ball when in the twenty-five. Parker fielded briskly and ran in at the corner, Cundy missing the goal. Horowhenua endeavoured to put in the ginger, but Wairarapa drove them back and from a line-out in the visitor’s twenty-five Jury snapped up and crossed at the corner. Cundy failed.— Wairarapa 9; Horowhenua 0. Jury received from Hart, burst through the forwards, and transferred to J. Donald who forced his way over to score near rhe poles. Cundy goalcd. Wairarapa after this lead with five minutes to go slackened. Immediately Horowhenua put on steam till Gleeson broke through rhe ruck with the ball at foot. Continuing their effort the visitors pressed Wairarapa back to the corner peg where Galpin scooped up to score the final try just on rhe call of time.
