QUESTION OF DRESS
MEN MORE PARTICULAR THE DEMANDS OF ‘ * HARMONY. ’ ’ That men are becoming as careful about their dress as women is the opinion of a Wanganui mon’s wear specialists. During the last few months the fashion planners have been at work trying to persuade men to wear garments that harmonise. Hats must match the suits; and the colour of socks in relation to the pocket handkerchief suddenly becomes a vital matter. Shirt and tie must be of the same hue. It would be a‘ ‘ crime” for the carefully-dressed young man to appear in a brow’n hat, when wearing a blue suit, striped shirt and grey socks—but worse to appear in public wearing brown shoes with a blue shirt. The latest dictum from overseas is that belts and belt-buckles must work in with the general scheme of attire. The well-dressed man should possess four suits—two for business, one for sports wear, and one for formal occasions. A tan, brown or cocoa belt is proper only when worn with a tan, brown or suit. It is equally important that a grey or black belt be worn only with a grey, black or blue suit, and it is considered decidedly wrong to reverse the order.
