A Disguise Too Perfect

The disguise of a London constable when on plainclothes duty is sometimes too effective. A policeman in the district of Eidmonton donned tattered garments and posed as a street hawker trundling along a costermonger’s barrow to complete his make-up. The policeman, unable to dispose of the gift, had for the sake of appearances to push the load around the streets for several hours until his period of duty terminated.
