SCOUT NOTES. f Special "Chronicle" Service. 1 At the monthly meeting of the Troop Committee of the Bulls Boy Scouts, the following troop and pack activities were reported:— August 23.—The Scouts paid a visit to Flock House in cars supplied by Miss Wilson and Messrs Stewart, Mclntosh and McGregor, and spent a social evening with the 70 boys there, songs and games comprising a most 'enjoyable programme. The party concluded with supper. August 25.—The Scouts held a social evening in the Clifton Hall, and at the function Miss Wilson, Assistant Commissioner, presented Mr R. Kemp with his warrant as Scout Master. In doing so, Miss Wilson spuke of the pleasure it gave her to see one of the old Scouts taking the position, and one which she was sure of his filling successfully. Other badges given out were as follows: —Patrol-Leader Ralfe, Ist. Class and King’s Scout; Troop-Leader Ellery, Ist. Class and Dairyman; Scouts J. Cole, A. Kemp and L. Ransome, Cyclist’s and Dairyman’s. August 30: A Church Parade, at the Presbyterian Church, was well atttended and the Rev. Stewart delivered an excellent sermon on the Scouts’ and Girl Guides’ motto, “Be Prepared.” September 8. —On Saturday the Cub Pack visited the Te Awe Awe Pack, at Palmerston North, the occasion being to celebrate the Bulls Pack’s 7th birthday. The Cubs were met by Sister Elliot, the Cub Master and her three? assistants, and the new Commissioner, Mr Dredge, was also present. After the Grand Howl was given and Peter’s Pole, won by the Te Awe Awe Pack in competition, was displayed, the Bulls Cubs gave a jungle play and some singing games, and they also demonstrated some new ball games. The Te Awe Awe Cubs gave the visitors their haka and gave a demonstration of physical exercises to gramophone music. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent and brought to a happy close with afternoon tea . RANGITIKEI GOLF CLUB The following is the draw for the third and final round of the Stroke competition to bo played today: Mackay plays Ingram; Robbie plays Montgomery; Jno. Tricker plays Sir J. Wilson; Mansell plays Willis; Wilson plays Goodall; Marumaru plays Mitchell; Edwards plays Prichard; Petrie plays Thompson. The final of the Club Championship between A. J. Law and H. A. Signal will probably be played on this afternoon. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING On Wednesday evening the Linton Miniature Rifle Club visited Ohakea to shoot a friendly match with that Club. Ohakea scored a fairly easy victory by 29 points, and their average for 12 men was 132. The detailed scores are as follows: Ohakea.—A Vile 68, 70—138; H. Hill 70, 66—136; F. Lumsden 66, 69—135; J. A quiet wedding was solemnised at the bride’s parents, Foxton, this week, when Marion Olive, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Andrew, was united in matrimony with Walter Surtees, eldest son of Air and Airs A. Cole, Bulls. The Rev. W. H. Nicholas was the officiating minister. The Active Service Cadets of the St. Andrew’s Church, Bulls, are holding a “shop” in the Town Hall on Alonday, Sale Day. TO-NIGHT’S PICTURES “American Beauty” is all that the name implies. Which means that the picture of that name at the’ Bulls Town Hall on Saturday night has beautiful Billie Dove, who richly deserves the title, in the starring role, a capable cast of supporting players and an excellent story in which an abundance of comedy and touches of drama and pathos ar?e intermingled with skill and adroitness.
