“RATA BLOSSOM” THINKS “THE FATHER WHO SMACKS THEM ALL” SHOULD WRITE.

capital idea you have thought of by just putting the answers of the Wendyites letters in print. Nevertheless, I did miss their interesting letters this week, but the answers tell most of the news in the letters. My word, Wendy, I was amused when I read “The Mother WTio Smacks Them All's” letter; 1 thought it was very, nice of her to write to you. The next one to write to you should be “The Father Who Smacks Them All, ’ I think it should be the father of the two little boys who were told by him that he would order another paper and not have the Wanganui Chronicle; I can just imagine what their little faces looked like. This morning I went round the farm with dad, and I was nearly blown off my pony by the wind. I was on some of the big hills when the worst came, and to make matters worse the rain and hail came down in torrents; luckily, I had my waterproof coat with me or I would have been drenched to the akin. Now. dear Wendy, I shall tell you of a large flood which occurred two years ago. It started raining one Saturday night, and it did not stop until the Wednesday afternoon. I was unable to go to school on the Tuesday and Wednesday on account of the large slips, and one of the bridges being washed away. The Rangitikei River is a very treacherous one when in flood, and it did not take only water with it but five acres of our land. I stood on one of our cliffs and watched it. All the smaller islands were covered with water and I could see large pieces of land falling into the river all the time. It was very dangerous standing near the rocky banks so I had to keep a long way back. It was a real picture and I did enjoy watching it. This year dad has a large groin on each side of one part of the river with a large expanding wire rope on each one with large trees tied to it. The idea is to send the water on to the main stream and prevent the water coming this side. At present the river is in flood and it has stretched the wire rope considerably and it now forms a large curve in the river. Well, dear Wendy, as I have already broken th« rules I shall close this rigmarole. With mansions of love.—From “RATA BLOSSOM " Rata. I am pleased you think my idea of answering the letters a good one. my dear. It would be nice to have a letter from "The Father Who Smacks Them All,” wouldn’t it? What a big flood it must have been. What a terrible thing for the river to do. That was a large piece of land to loose. Something would need to be done to prevent the river from taking more land away.—Wendy.
