WAIRARAPA HEIFER’S RECORD What is a record for the Jersey breed in the Wairarapa has just been completed by a pedigree two-year-old Jersey heifer. Lisbury Zenith’s Sultana, owned by Mr Jennings, of Mauriceville. This great heifer has just linishtdj her 365 uays’ test by the Dairy Division <jf the Department of Agriculture, with 734.871b5. of butterfat from 12,184.61b5. of milk, commencing her test at the age of 2 years 138 days. This is the first purebred Jersey cow of any age to reach or exceed 7001bs. fat in the Wairarapa. Lisbury Zenith’s Sultana is by the imported bull, Bright Sultan—Zenith's Giri, who was purchased from Mr H. C. Sampson, Hillsborough, by Air Jennings four years ago, and w r ho herself put up 7531 bs. of fat when 11 years old, but failed by one day to calve in time for a certificate.

Of the seven two-year-old Jerseys in the Dominion to exceed; 7001bs. fat under semi-official test. Sultana has only been beaten by Ivondale Golden Rainbow, bred and tested by Mr J. Peterson, oK Waitara, Taranaki, and, now owned by Mr Truby King, Stratford. which put up 768-461bs. fat from 12,962-21bs. milk, but was 2 years 311 days old at the commencement of the test, nearly six months older than Sultana, and was on her second calf, w'hereas Sultana was on her first. Sultana has only been milked twice a day throughout the p riod, and her average test for the 365 days is 6.03. Considering that the Mauriceville land is by no means ideal for dairying, and the severe drought of January and February was a great handicap, this performance for so young an animal must be considered outstanding. Sultana was due to calve again about June 25.
