NURSING LEAGUE SUFFERS SUBSIDY WITHDRAWN. Like many other bodies the Wanganui District Nursing League is experiencing the pincu of restricted finance. In the report pubnutted at the annual meeting oi the League yesterday it was stated that finances were low, owing to the fact that the Government subsidy had been withdrawn and that the League had not had a public collection other than a small shop day, during the last year. There was a fairly large attendance at the meeting, which was presided over by Miss C. Cruickshank, principal of the Cirls’ College. The annual report stated that the year had been a very busy one, as would be gathered from the fact that tho nurse had paid 2645 visits- Twentynine new cases were put on the list, 59 were discharged, 11 re-admitted, and 19 were admitted to hospital- Twenty deaths occurred. Sixteen remained on the list to date. The grateful thanks of the League were due to all those who had helped by gifts and donations of money or clothing, and to the trustees of St. Paul’s Institute for the use of a room for meetings, the City Council for free passes on the trams for the nurse; the auditor (Mr Lee), and the newspapers. It was much regretted that during the year the secretary, Miss Newcombe, had found it necessary to resign on UC’ count of ill-health.
