PARAPARA ROAD

CONTRIBUTION BY CITY “A WISE INVESTMENT” An important decision was arrived at by the Wanganui City Council last evening when it adopted a recommendation that the Council pay £5BlO towards the completion of the metalling and grading of the Parapara Road, the sum to be divided into four annual instalments. The Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers), who moved the motion, said that while he recognised that there might be a dangerous precedent involved, he was of the opinion that the completion of the road would be of great benefit to Wanganui city. Cr. J. Siddells opposed the motion on principle, stating that he considered it wrong that a local body should be spending money outside its territory. Cr. Siddells was supported by Cr. XV. M. Lux ford. Cr. W. Al. Falconer, who spoke in favour of the motion, considered that the contribution would be a wise investment. The motion was carried, Crs. Siddells and Luxford voting against it.
