A PIONEER TRAVELLER AUCKLANDER'S RECOLLECTIONS. [Special “Chronicle” Service.] AUCKLAND, June 26. Recollections of New Zealand when it had not a mile of railway or a yard of telegraph wire are Ifeld by Mr Thomas George Marlow, one of the pioneer commercial travellers, who will celebrate his 90th birthday tomorow. His wife, who was 90 years of age in November last, is now an invalid. These two old colonists live at Epsom, and Mr Marlow is in fair health. Joining Bing, Harris and Co. as a traveller, Mr Marlow was on the road from Auckland to Bluff four times a year. ‘ Yes, 1 used to have some rough trips,” he said. ‘‘We used to go in ton vessels from Wellington to the West Coast, and much of my travelling had to be done on horseback.”

Coming to Auckland in 1881, he joined Archibald Clark and Sons, and travelled for that firm. Later he took •jp farming and not until he was 84 years of age did. he think he deserved a rest.
