LONG SERVICE

A BIBLE CLASS WORKER PLEASANT FUNCTION HELD One of the happiest gatherings ever held in connection with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Ghurch, Wanganui, tooz. place at the residence of Miss Fowler when past and present girls of the Senior Young Women’s Bible Class met to show their appreciation of Miss Olive M. Russell’s 21 years as leader. All arrangements ha*i been kept n secret and Miss Russell received a surprise when on arrival, she was presenter! with a beautiful bouquet by Miss Melville, the senior member of the class, Miss Burnett having made the bouquet. Then followed a welcome song, competitions and games, and the meeting of old friends made the time pass quickly. Tokens and wires of congratulation from absent girls were read and parcels opened. Mr George Scott (S. S. Superintendent at the time) briefly traced the history of the class from the time it was first talker! of in the home of Airs Bruce (who was present) till to-day. On bc-ht If of those present and those scattered al.’, over the Dominion he asked Miss Russell to accept on their behalf, a pewter afternoon tea service and salver and a case of afternoon tea spoons, inscribed: “To Miss Olive M. Rust ell. From her past and present B.C. Girls of St. Andrew’s, 1907-1928.” A cup and saucer and. plate had been placed on the salver for Airs Russell as a token of tho girls’ love for her, an/i for Miss Al. Russell a huge box of chocolates.

Miss Russell responded and thanked all the present and absent girls for their gifts to herself, mother and sister. A beautifully iced 21st. birthday cake blazing with 21 candles, which Mrs Hanton baketl and iced*. The girls Miss Russell cut the cake and supper followed. Games, further competitions and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a memorable evening for all. Among those present were: Air and Airs G. Scott, Air and Aliss Russt-«, Alesdames W. H. Hanton, Haase, J. Bruce, Whitehead, A. Weir, I. Reid, Keith, Chapman, Colling, Rountree, Misses J. and B. Scott, E. Alelville, W. Clemancc, B. Hedge, A. Haase, M. Hanton, L. Burnet, G. awl E. Brailsford, N. Bathgate, K. and M. Flower, B. AlcGregor, B. Walker, L. Lithgow, M. Sewell, Rockel, and Clover.
