MOUNTED RIFLES’ SPORT PREPARATIONS FOR VISIT FROM THE GENERAL Military sports were held by the Queen Alexandra’s Own Mounted Rifles Regiment on the Waverlcy racecourse on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine and a large crowd attended. To-day and to-morrow there will be preliminary manoeuvers in preparation for a visit from the G.O.C. on Wednesday, when there will be a field day with general advance work for his inspection. The results of the sports were as follows: — Horse Events Tug-of-war mounted: —C. Squadron, under Sgt. Johnston 1. Musical chairs:—Corpl. Mullhally, Hdqrs Staff 1. Open jump:—Sergt. Southcombe, B Sqdn. 1; Capt. Harvey, B Sqdn. 2; Tpr. Symes, A. Sqdn. 3. Section jump:—A Sqdn, Sergt. Sampson, Thompson, Brownlie, Symes. Foot Races 100 yards:—E. Walters 1. I. Johnston 2, A. Sampson 3. 220 yards: —E. Walters 1, K. Ironmonger 2, I. Johnston. 3. 410 yards:—R. Armstrong 1, E. Walters 2. Rifle Shooting A match arranged between a team from the Waver! ey camp of the Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles and a team of Waverlcy marksmen was fired off on the Waverlcy range on Saturday afternoon in fine weather, the light, however, being dull, proved rather troublesome at times. The ranges used were the 200 yards and 300 yards, seven shots being fired at each range. The visitors proved themselves the victors on the day by 21 points.
