The Ashburton Trotting Club’s autumn meeting was held in fine weather and there was larger attendance than usual. The course was in good order. The totalisatoi handled £17,773, against £16,887 last year. After the fourth race B. Jarden was fined £5 for using insulting language to a gate-keeper and was also ordered to apologise or suffer a month’s disqualification. Elstow Handicap.—2 Lackiewood 1, 4 Billy Carbine 2, 6 Peter Brown 3. Neck; three lengths. Time 3.42 1-5. Manawaru Handicap.—2 Andover 1, 6 Sebisca 2, 4 Admiral Lock 3. Nock; two and a-half lengths. At the start Hohoro led with Peter McKinney and Tamerlane while past the stand Bingen King was in front of Tamerlane. Along the back the order
was the same. Taipare led into the straight from Nelson Tasker, and Gold Dial came away to beat Taipare by a head, with the third horse a length away. Time 4.47.
