ATTRACTING CUSTOM
THE GRADING OF CREAM ALLEGATIONS AGAINST DAIRY COMPANY- [ Per P.vess Association. J AUCKLAND, April 20. Allegations 11. at the Taupiri Dairy Company, Ltd., had graded cream advantageously to suppliers were made in the Police Court to-day, when the Company was charged on eight counts with fading- to grade cream received from a supplier in accordance with the regulations. Mr Hubble, who appeared for the Department of Agriculture, said that the first grade cream sent to the company by a client was placed in the finest grade, the result being that the supplier received a higher price. In one book the grader had 'ntered thc cream as first grade, but it had been entered as finest in the office books. "This must have been done for the purpose of attracting custom,” said Mr Hubble. Mr Leary, representing the company, said the grader’s task was a difficult one and results of the grading often varied. For the eight misgradings the supplier received an additional 9s 7d. There was no foundation for the suggestion that the company was endeavouring to attract business by fa.vour able grading.
On the first charge thc company was fined 20s, and 10s on each of the other seven, together with _os..s.
