CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE LARGE BUILDING GUTTED £ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON. April 20. At 8.30 this evefning a fire broke out in a building at the corner of Tewslcy and Willis streets owned by Messrs John Mill and Co,, and occupied by Messrs A. S. Paterson aaid Co. as a store for wool and skins and electrical machinery.
The building was divided into three sections, the largest of which contained electrical machinery valued at approximately £25,000. Some £4OOO worth of hides and skins were stored in the adjoining section but the smallest of the three, which was used as the hide floor, was empty. The fire had a strong hold before the brigade arrived and although it was got under within half an hour of the alarm being given the greater part of the buildi'ng was completely gutted, only the hide floor escaping. The contents of the wool and hide and electrical stores, which suffered considerable damage by fire and water were fully insured in the British. Traders' Office. The building Is covered in tho Standard Insurance Co.
